Leitað er að einstaklingi sem stundar öflugar rannsóknir í algebru eða á skyldu sviði og ætlast er til að viðkomandi muni standa fyrir uppbyggingu rannsókna á sínu sviði.  Dósentinn mun jafnframt kenna námskeið fyrir BS-nema í stærðfræði á ýmsum sviðum stærðfræði og kenna verkfræðinemum námskeið í línulegri algebru og stærðfræðigreiningu.  Ætlast er til að viðkomandi taki fullan þátt í skipulagningu og þróun náms í stærðfræði, bæði grunnnáms og framhaldsnáms. Við ráðningu verður miðað við að sá er starfið hlýtur falli sem best að aðstæðum og þörfum deildarinnar. Kennsla í grunnnámi við Háskóla Íslands fer almennt fram á íslensku.  Erlendum starfsmönnum er boðið að sækja námskeið í íslensku.

pallas_athena_positivblueThe Faculty of Physical Sciences at the School of Engineering and Natural Sciences, University of Iceland, seeks applicants to fill a tenure-track position of Associate Professor in Mathematics.

Applicants should have a doctoral degree in mathematics. Applicants should be actively engaged in high quality research in algebra or a related subject. It is expected that the successful applicant will lead research development in the field. The successful candidate is expected to teach a broad spectrum of mathematics courses to undergraduate students in mathematics and courses in mathematical analysis and linear algebra to undergraduate students in engineering. The successful candidate should take full part in the organisation and development of the mathematics programme, both at the undergraduate and graduate level.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills are also required. The need and nature of the Faculty of Physical Sciences will be taken into account when final decision is made. The language of instruction at the University of Iceland is Icelandic. International applicants are offered courses in Icelandic.

Samkvæmt reglum Háskóla Íslands er rektor heimilt að veita framgang í starf prófessors strax við nýráðningu uppfylli viðkomandi skilyrði til þess.

Ráðið verður í starfið til fimm ára með möguleika á ótímabundinni ráðningu að þeim tíma liðnum sbr. 3. mgr. 31. gr. reglna fyrir Háskóla Íslands nr. 569/2009.

Laun eru skv. kjarasamningi Félags háskólakennara og fjármálaráðherra.

Um meðferð umsókna, mat á hæfi umsækjenda og ráðningu í starfið er farið eftir ákvæðum laga um opinbera háskóla nr. 85/2008 og reglna fyrir Háskóla Íslands nr. 569/2009.

Á Verkfræði- og náttúruvísindasviði starfa um þrjú hundruð manns við rannsóknir og kennslu á sviði verkfræði og náttúruvísinda. Starfsumhverfið er alþjóðlegt enda eykst sífellt hlutfall erlendra starfsmanna og nemenda við sviðið, en fjórðungur bæði starfsmanna og framhaldsnema eru erlendir. Nemendur Verkfræði- og náttúruvísindasviðs eru um 2900 talsins í sex deildum. Þar af eru um 340 í meistaranámi og  150 í doktorsnámi.  Rannsóknarstofnanir sviðsins eru Jarðvísindastofnun og Eðlisvísindastofnun sem tilheyra báðar Raunvísindastofnun, Líf- og umhverfisvísindastofnun, Verkfræðistofnun og Stofnun Sæmundar fróða sem er þverfræðileg stofnun og heyrir undir öll fræðasvið háskólans.

Stærðfræðingahópurinn á Verkfræði- og náttúruvísindasviði tilheyrir Raunvísindadeild. Verkefni hópsins eru rannsóknir á ýmsum sviðum í hreinni og hagnýtri stærðfræði, kennsla og leiðbeining framhaldsnema í  ýmsum greinum stærðfræði, kennsla BS-nema í stærðfræði og kennsla nemenda í öðrum greinum, einkum verkfræði. Framtíðarmarkmið hópsins eru að styrkja rannsóknarstarfið enn frekar með því að skapa frjóan og virkan rannsóknarvettvang innanhúss, efla erlent samstarf og fjölga framhaldsnemum.

Háskóli Íslands er stærsta kennslu-, rannsókna- og vísindastofnun Íslands og er í hópi 300 bestu háskóla heims samkvæmt nýjum matslista Times Higher Education.This is a tenure-track position with an initial appointment of five years. The evaluation of academic merits will be in accordance with Icelandic Law and Rules for the University of Iceland No. 569/2009. According to the regulations of the University, the Rector may grant promotion to qualified candidates at the start of employment, to the level of Full Professor.

Salary for the position of Associate Professors will be according to the current collective wage and salary agreement between the Union of University Teachers, and the Minister of Finance.

At the School of Engineering and Natural Sciences are about 300 people employed in research and teaching. The School offers an international environment as the number of international employees and students increases each year. Currently 25% of all employees and graduate students are international. Students at the School are about 2900 in six faculties, thereof are about 340 graduate students and 150 doctorate students. Research institutes at the school are the Science Institute that divides into the Institute of Earth Sciences and Institute of Physical Sciences, Institute of Life and Environmental Sciences, Engineering Research Institute and the Institute for Sustainability Studies which is a interdisciplinary institute and belongs to the five schools of the University of Iceland.

The School’s mathematics group is a part of the Faculty of Physical Sciences. The group’s tasks are research in various fields of pure and applied mathematics, teaching and instruction of graduate students, teaching undergraduate students in mathematics and other subjects, especially engineering.
