Title: A journey into large deviation theory
Abstract: In this talk, I will introduce the basic ideas to study fluctuations and rare events in physical sciences through the lens of large deviation theory. After introducing some examples, I will go through the historical landmarks of the theory and will end up showing how it is being used today in equilibrium and nonequilibrium physics. The talk is meant for a general audience and questions are welcome anytime during the presentation.
