Applications are invited for a postdoctoral post in Mathematics at the Mathematics Division of the Science Institute, University of Iceland. The Mathematics Division is the forum for research in pure and applied mathematics, mathematical physics, and statistics at the University of Iceland. Members of the Mathematics Division also teach and supervise undergraduate and graduate students.
Field of work
The successful candidate is expected to conduct research in mathematics.
Qualification requirements
- Candidates must have completed a doctorate in mathematics or related fields at the commencement of the appointment.
- Good English skills, both spoken and written.
- Good cooperation and communication skills and independent working methods.
It is desirable that no more than five years have elapsed from the appointee’s completion of a doctorate to the commencement of the appointment. Consideration will be taken of how well the applicant’s research fits with the research areas within the Mathematics Division (see the website https://math.hi.is/).

At the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, around 400 people work in research and teaching in the field of engineering and natural sciences. There are about 2,000 students in the department, while at the Faculty of Science, about 400 students study chemistry, physics and mathematics. Of these, about 60 are graduate students in master’s and doctoral studies. There are about 40 academic staff in physical sciences, teachers and experts at the Institute of Physical Sciences (EH). The institute is a research platform for teachers, experts and graduate students who conduct basic research in the physical sciences. EH has strong international connections and many research projects are carried out in extensive cooperation between researchers in Iceland and abroad.
